Browns Backers History
 | In Memoriam - Richard Hunt
Richard Hunt The former president of Baltimore Browns Backers club. |
The Baltimore Browns Backers were founded in 1989 by Nancy Hayes-Gary and Jeff
Gary. Natives of Ohio, Nancy and Jeff sought others in the area who longed
for the cheers from the Pound. They missed watching the Brown and Orange.
They knew there had to be others in the area that missed the Browns too! Thus, the
Baltimore Browns Backers were born! Their first home was at an airport bar
in a Baltimore suburb. That year they had more than 25 members and were growing!
The subsequent years proved the strength and loyalty of Browns fans in the Baltimore area. At the end of the 1995 football season, the club was 165
members strong. The last meeting place was at a bar in Baltimore City. The club
consistently had more than 75 members per game.
When the NFL granted Cleveland an expansion team, the Baltimore Browns Backers reconvened in 1999 at the Hubcap Inn in Baltimore.
